Why We Made It

Each year, 180 billion plastic polybags are used by the fashion industry alone. With low recycling rates, the vast majority end up in landfill, or as pollution in our waterways, wildlife, and even human bodies.

Many polybags can and should be eliminated. But they have become supply chain staples due to their ability to protect products during shipping, ensuring pristine delivery. Sway Polybags maintain this essential performance while generating benefits for ocean health, coastal communities, and soil.

How It's Made

STEP #1: FORMULATION
Sway is an ingredient brand. At our lab in the San Francisco Bay Area, we develop breakthrough formulations through continuous prototyping, rigorous testing, and lab-scale production trials. Our team is constantly innovating!

STEP #2: MANUFACTURING
We partner with established domestic manufacturers who utilize standard plastic processing equipment. These partners compound and extrude our biobased formulations into high-performance pellets and flexible films.

STEP #3: DISTRIBUTION
Our network of packaging distributors (EcoEnclose, A New Earth Project, and Atlantic Packaging) transform our finished materials into packaging for brands across industries — from fashion and sports, to cosmetics and personal care, and beyond. We're just getting started!

Formulation

This material (TPSea Flex™) is majority biobased, combining our 100% biobased pellet technology (TPSea™) with certified home compostable polymers.

End of Life

Sway packaging is home and industrial compostable, breaking down cleanly without microplastics or toxic residues. If compost is not available, please dispose of it in the trash. This packaging is not recyclable.

TPSea Flex™, the material used to make this bag, is constantly evolving. Sway certifies commercially ready materials through the global gold-standard certification, TUV Austria. Formal certification is a time- and resource-intensive process, taking approximately a year to complete. This is why you may see some bags labeled as "certification pending."

TPSea Flex™ 1.0 has achieved TUV Industrial Compost certification, with Home certification underway. TPSea Flex™ 1.1 and beyond are formulated entirely from certified compostable ingredients. Please inquire with our team for the latest certification status.
